Performed with the Des Moines Symphony
Des Moines Performing Arts is pleased to announce the creation of a new family-friendly Symphony show with the World Premiere of Air Play Symphony by Acrobuffos as part of the 2019-2020 Wellmark Family Series. Created as part comedy, part sculpture, and all orchestra, Air Play Symphony will take the Civic Center stage with Joseph Giunta conducting the Des Moines Symphony on Saturday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. for a fun family concert experience.
In Air Play Symphony fabrics swirl in a giant air vortex, balloons swallow people, silks soar over the audience, and confetti flutters into a starry sky. With stunning images and gales of laughter, Air Play Symphony is a circus-style adventure through a surreal land of air, transforming ordinary objects into uncommon beauty. Set to a remarkable score of classical music performed live by the Des Moines Symphony, the circus comedians Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone seamlessly interplay between the breath-taking sculptures, orchestral music, and the audience.
Created in collaboration with kinetic sculptor Daniel Wurtzel, Air Play was devised through years of experimentation with simple materials, movement, and technology. Great for all ages, Air Play creates beauty and inspires laughter across cultures and continents. No translation necessary, Air Play has played from the southernmost opera house in the world in Chile, to London’s Royal Festival Hall, Melbourne's State Theatre, Shanghai’s Grand Theatre, and continues to tour.
