NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC LIVE SPEAKER (UNITED STATES)

GRADES 5-8

National Geographic Explorers, photographers, filmmakers, and scientists embody the importance of living curious, responsible, and empowered lives. We’re proud to present these inspiring role models through our student matinees.

Step back, about 220 miles from earth, and experience our planet from a new perspective. Former International Space Station Commander Terry Virts helped to install the outpost’s 360-degree observation module, which not only helped him to take more photos than any astronaut before him, but also gives those who see the images a deeper understanding of our planet’s climate, economics, and place in the universe.

Themes: space, exploration, science, climate, photography

Health and Safety Protocols

We anticipate health and safety protocols to evolve as performances progress. Reservation contacts should expect an email detailing specific protocols for all guests — including students — entering DMPA venues closer to the date of their performance(s).

Throughout the shutdown our team has consulted with state and local leaders as well as monitored CDC guidance to prepare for your safe return to our facilities. Enhancements include: updating our HVAC systems with new filters, adjusting for increased fresh air circulation and adding portable air filtration systems in key areas of the venue.

We want you to feel confident when making reservations for your group. Please be aware of the following considerations when making your reservation:

  • Audience capacities for upcoming school performances will typically not allow for physically-distanced seating.
  • Des Moines Performing Arts reserves the right to require masks for audience members and staff. Decisions about mask guidelines for each show will take into consideration guidance from the CDC and local health officials, as well as current conditions in Polk and surrounding counties.

Your loyalty has protected the arts through this intermission and we are delighted to welcome you back to live performances. Thank you for your continued support!
