In the face of the everchanging circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus, Des Moines Performing Arts has cancelled in-person summer camps for summer 2020.

Families registered for in-person camps should watch their email for a message regarding how to transfer their account credit to a new virtual camp/class experience or how to request a refund.

PUT ON A MUSICAL IN ONE WEEK!

This weeklong day camp invites young artists to explore their talents and skills as musical theater actors in an original musical production. Each participant is guaranteed a role - assigned on the first day through an audition process - and will rehearse throughout the week.

Our professional scenic, lighting and costume designers, as well as our professional director and music director, will make sure you are ready to take the stage with confidence when you perform for family and friends at the end of the week. And, don't worry. When you're not rehearsing, workshops, games and other activities will help you increase your skills, make new friends, and have lots of fun too!

No previous experience necessary; all experience levels welcome!

For students entering grades 3-8, fall 2020.

Six week-long sessions of MUSICAL THEATER CAMP will be offered:

Hours: Camp begins at 9 AM and ends promptly at 4 PM (M-Th) and from 9 AM until 7 PM on Friday). Students may be dropped off in the morning between 8:45-9:00 AM.

Final performance is Friday at 5:30 PM, followed by costume check-in. (No tickets necessary for family and friends to attend.)

FEES

Musical Theater Camp carries a registration fee of $290, which includes a daily snack; participants are asked to bring a sack lunch each day.

Families registering multiple participants receive a $20 discount on each additional child's registration. The first registration will be issued at the $290 fee, with additional children within the same household eligible for the discounted rate of $270.

(Pay in full at time of registration or in four equal installments. Payment plans only available for registrations received prior to March 22, 2020.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We want to make sure that camp is accessible to all. Please check out details on our SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM if financial assistance is needed to allow your child to participate.

Scholarship applications may be submitted beginning Monday, January 13, 2020.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Due to the short timeframe of the camp and the intense rehearsal schedule, partipation in the culminating performance is dependent on full attendance throughout the week. Missed rehearsals may necessitate that a participant give up his or her role for the success of the overall production.

Please clear your student's schedule of any appointments or conflicts for your selected week of camp, and be sure to communicate with camp staff if an emergency arises.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Your participation is very important to the overall success of your selected camp, but we understand that summer plans sometimes change.

In the event that you are no longer able to participate, please submit notice of your camp cancellation to education@desmoinesperformingarts.org.

Written notice of cancellation must be received six weeks prior to the first date of the camp in order for a refund to be issued.

If a cancellation is submitted less than six weeks prior to the camp start date, a refund will only be issued if we are able to secure a new registration to fill the vacated spot.

BEFORE AND AFTER CAMP CARE

Before and After Camp Care sessions are offered for an additional $6.00 fee per session which may be added during the registration payment process.

Before care sessions open beginning at 7:30 AM; after care ends promptly at 5:30 PM.
