Based in the coastal resort town of Biarritz in Southern France, Artistic Director Thierry Malandain has developed a very personal approach to dance that is rooted in classical ballet with a contemporary, full-bodied style. His company of 22 gorgeous dancers makes their Des Moines return with CINDERELLA —unlike any other you have seen before.
With more than eighty works to his credit, Malandain is deeply linked to the concept of "Ballet" as an aesthetic movement and gives priority to the dancing body and the celebration of its sensuality and humanity.
Deep human values underpin Malandain’s approach, as he leads a troupe of performers who master the grammar of classical dance with a contemporary expression. His search for meaning and aesthetics led to a timeless tough energetic and sober style, which draws its wealth from the roots of dance as well as a dynamic vision of this art.

Education Opportunities
Pre-Show DANCEtalk
Join us at 6:30 PM at the Des Moines Civic Center on the day of the performance to learn more about the company and the evening's performance. We will be joined by a member of the company's artistic staff for a thirty minute chat that will include time for audience questions.
Post-Show DANCEtalk
Stay late after the performance at the Des Moines Civic Center for a Q&A with the dancers. Join us at the front of the theater immediately after the performance for a chance to hear directly from the dancers about their experiences.
