SINGLE TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR THE DANCE SERIES!

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines Performing Arts is pleased to announce that single tickets to the 2017-2018 The Dance Series are on sale now! Tickets can be purchased at DMPA.org, the Civic Center Ticket Office, and by phone at 515-246-2300. All performances will be held at the Des Moines Civic Center.

 

HUBBARD STREET DANCE CHICAGO

January 24, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is among the most original forces in contemporary dance. As one of the only professional dance companies to perform year-round, Hubbard Street is continually touring nationwide and internationally. Now in its 39th year, the main company has appeared in celebrated dance venues in 44 states and 19 countries.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s core purpose is to bring artists, art and audiences together to enrich, engage, educate, transform and change lives through the experience of dance.

 

MOMIX: OPUS CACTUS

March 3, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

Opus Cactus has a new look, fresh energy, and fun surprises! Moses Pendleton brings the landscape of the American Southwest to life with his signature illusionistic style creating dynamic images of cactuses, slithering lizards and fire dancers. Originally created as a 20-minute piece in 2001 for the Ballet Arizona, Opus Cactus was then brought back into the MOMIX retort and a full-evening work was created.

 

BALLET HISPÁNICO

May 5, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

Ballet Hispánico brings communities together to celebrate and explore Latino cultures through innovative productions, transformative dance training, and community engagement.  

Led by award-winning Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, the Ballet Hispánico Company has performed for audiences totaling over 3 million, throughout 11 countries, and on three continents. The Company’s commitment to contemporary repertory has produced world-class, multifaceted performances that have featured master works by Nacho Duato, cutting-edge premieres by Cayetano Soto and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and live music collaborations with renowned artists such as Paquito D’Rivera and Ruben Blades—to name a notable few. 

Through the work of its professional company, school of dance, and community arts education programs, Ballet Hispánico celebrates the dynamic aesthetics of the Hispanic diaspora, building new avenues of cultural dialogue and sharing the joy of dance with all communities. 

 

MASTER CLASSES FOR LOCAL DANCERS

People sharpen their skills, stretch their imaginations, and create unique memories through a variety of Des Moines Performing Arts education opportunities, like Master Classes. With dance professionals as the instructors, students gain a deeper understanding of the process, build confidence, and benefit from a jolt of creative energy.
