DES MOINES, IA • Des Moines Performing Arts (DMPA) is excited to announce the musical entertainment for the three FAM JAM – “Family Jamboree” Mini Festivals that will be held at Cowles Commons this summer and fall. Each festival is free and open to the public and also includes bounces houses, art projects and activity stations, food trucks, and the Lauridsen Fountain. The events are part of a larger initiative by DMPA to program Cowles Commons and engage the community.

FAM JAM – 123 Andrés

123 Andrés are Andrés and Christina, an award-winning duo with catchy songs and a high-energy show that gets kids and families singing and dancing, in Spanish and English.

Andrés grew up in Bogota, Colombia, and learned how to play the guitar from his father as a child. He studied clarinet at the Conservatory and had his first studio experience at age eight. He went on to earn a Doctorate in music and win first prize in the National Composition Contest in Colombia for one of his early songs.

Christina was raised in the US, in a Spanish-speaking family hailing from Colombia, and studied theater and dance as a child. After serving as a classroom teacher in public schools and earning a Masters in Education from Penn, she found her mission teaching through music.

FAM JAM – Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players

Roberts has been creating the soundtrack to families’ lives, crafting songs that navigate the joys and sorrows of growing up. Justin and his band, The Not Ready for Naptime Players, have travelled the globe, from Hong Kong to New York, and Miami to Seattle.

Justin has performed in front of millions of people on The Today Show, he’s been featured on Nick Jr. TV, and his song “Get Me Some Glasses” as on a World Series broadcast. He’s received two GRAMMY nominations, for Jungle Gymin 2011 and Recessin 2014.
