WITNESS MATLOU

From Johannesburg, South Africa, pianist Witness Matlou is a composer and performer whose work is influenced by South African folk music, contemporary classical music, jazz, and other world music. Matlou earned a master’s degree from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and has performed at Lincoln Center and the Monterey Jazz Festival, and has shared the stage with many great artists. Matlou has toured in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the United States. He has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He recently accepted the position of assistant professor in the Harmony and Jazz Composition Department at the Berklee College of Music.
