Explore the world of musical theater dance in an online weekly class with Broadway’s Sara Brians!
Sara’s musical theater dance class centers on storytelling, character, musicality and performance. Class begins with a concise jazz-based warm-up to fire up your technique, strengthen and stretch your body, and prepare your mind for learning choreography. The focus of class is the combination, which will always be driven by character and story, and inspired by the music. You will be challenged to grow in a supportive online environment and your uniqueness will be joyfully celebrated in this class!
ABOUT SARA BRIANS
Sara Brians is an award-winning director, choreographer and educator based in NYC. Sara’s Broadway credits include Matilda, Billy Elliot, 42nd Street, White Christmas, The Terms of My Surrender and After The Night And The Music. Sara’s choreography credits include Cabaret, Spring Awakening, Godspell, Follies (Nyit Award), Rock Of Ages, Man Of La Mancha, The Full Monty, Big Fish, Chicago, Ring Of Fire, Merrily We Roll Along, Anyone Can Whistle, Pippin, The Trouble With Doug, Newton’s Cradle and many more. Additionally, Sara was a Rockette and she has worked at The Kennedy Center, Goodspeed Opera House, Asolo Repertory Theatre, The Alley Theatre, The 5th Avenue Theatre, Theatre Aspen, ACT of CT, Transcendence Theatre, Joe’s Pub, The Duke, The 92nd Street Y, Town Hall and Merkin Hall. HOW THE CLASS WILL BE STRUCTURED ONLINE
Class members will meet via Zoom for a consistent time each week, 4 weeks in a row. Set up your device in a quiet area of your home where you have room to move.
For younger participants in grades 3-6, please make sure a parent or other adult is available to assist you with any technology help.
Grades 3-6, based on fall 2020 enrollment
Tuesdays, 4-5 PM: June 9, 16, 23 and 30
Grades 7-12, based on fall 2020 enrollment
Thursdays, 4-5:15 PM: June 11, 18, 25, July 2
At least some previous dance experience recommended.
We will be using Zoom. To successfully participate, you will need a laptop, tablet, smart phone or computer with a webcam (internal or external) and reliable internet connection. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about your ability to participate due to a lack of access to technology.
Grades 3-6 (Tuesdays)
This class carries a registration fee of $48.
Grades 7-12 (Thursdays)
This class carries a registration fee of $60.

Scholarship applications should be submitted BEFORE registering.
Due to the configuration of this camp, many activities rely upon working with others and depend on full attendance throughout the week. Missed sessions may necessitate that a participant’s role be modified or reduced.
Cancellation
In the event that you are no longer able to participate, please submit notice of your cancellation to education@desmoinesperformingarts.org.
Written notice of cancellation must be received two weeks prior to the first date of your camp or class in order for a refund to be issued. Refunded tuition will be minus a 6% processing fee to cover expenses associated with your original booking.
If a cancellation is submitted less than two weeks prior to the camp or class start date, a refund will only be issued if we are able to move a waitlisted student into the vacated spot.
Low enrollment: Des Moines Performing Arts reserves the right to cancel classes and camps due to insufficient enrollment without incurring obligation. If a class or camp is canceled by Des Moines Performing Arts, you are entitled to a full tuition refund.
If your preferred session is full, please add your name to our wait list by clicking HERE and indicate your participant's age and which session(s) you are interested in attending. We will contact you if a space becomes available or if additional sessions are added.
