A project of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus

IT GETS BETTER is a new artistic collaboration with the world-famous San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. This work previously resided under the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, but now the program has found a new home in San Francisco.  The IT GETS BETTER Tour brings the experience and message of the online IT GETS BETTER Project to communities and audiences by blending music, theater, and multimedia into a work for the stage.  The cast brings to life real stories from gay, lesbian, transgender, and straight allies from around the country.

With the IT GETS BETTER Tour, a small but dedicated ensemble travels to communities nationwide to produce a week of educational workshops culminating in a moving musical theater performance.  To date, the tour has reached close to 15,000 students and has visited 18 cities across the country.  The week highlights anti-bullying, tolerance and acceptance through community roundtable discussions, high school visits, it gets better videos, and creative exercises.  Local choirs join the cast onstage for the final musical number in what has been described as the most touching and moving moment of the entire show.

WORLD CAFÉ COMMUNITY DIALOGUE

Wednesday, February 12, 2020 • 4-6 PM

Join us for a facilitated conversation about the local climate on LGBTQ+ youth in the Des Moines community. The World Café facilitation model for community dialogue utilizes the approach of appreciative inquiry, and all will have the opportunity to share and actively participate. Small group table discussions are guided by a series of questions designed to examine challenges in the community, a vision for improving conditions, and resources available to implement that vision.

Interested in participating in this World Café conversation? Please contact Sarah Florian.

You Make The Difference

"The arts help us understand ourselves as human beings. If you look at how we've ever documented our existence, it's all through an art form."
