BROADWAY SUMMER ACADEMY - CANCELLED

This camp has been cancelled.

In the face of the everchanging circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus, Des Moines Performing Arts has cancelled in-person summer camps for summer 2020.

Families registered for in-person camps should watch their email for a message regarding how to transfer their account credit to a new virtual camp/class experience or how to request a refund.

PUSH YOUR PERFORMANCE SKILLS TO NEW HEIGHTS!

Dreaming of being in a show or already performing in musicals? BROADWAY SUMMER ACADEMY is designed for middle school students in grades 6-8 who thrill at the thought of performing in a musical. These five days of camp bring experienced guest Broadway performers to lead sessions in the triple threat areas of musical theater – acting, dancing, and singing.

Daily workshops and rehearsals will help you dig into the world of Broadway and prepare you for your next chapter as a young performer. Faculty will begin with each participant at his or her ability level and lead them through activities designed to appropriately stretch their skills.

No audition is necessary, although previous experience in music, dance or acting is recommended; a willingness to jump in and try in all areas required.

For students entering grades 6-8, fall of 2020.

DATES AND HOURS

One FIVE-day session of SUMMER BROADWAY ACADEMY will be offered:
July 20-24, 2020

Hours: Camp begins at 9 AM and ends promptly at 4 PM (Monday-Thursday) and from 9 AM until approximately 7:00 PM on Friday. Students may be dropped off in the morning between 8:45-9 AM.

Final showcase is FRIDAY at 5:30 PM. (No tickets necessary for family and friends to attend.)

Locations:

  • Monday-Thursday at Mainframe Studios, 900 Keosauqua Way, Des Moines.
  • Friday's activities, including the final showcase, will be held at the Des Moines Civic Center, 221 Walnut Street, Des Moines.

FEES

Fee for the BROADWAY SUMMER ACADEMY is $395, which includes a daily snack; participants are asked to bring a sack lunch each day.

(Pay in full at time of registration or in four equal installments. Payment plans only available for registrations received prior to March 22, 2020.)

SCHOLARSHIPS

We want to make sure that camp is accessible to all. Please check out details on our SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM if financial assistance is needed to allow your child to participate.

Scholarship applications may be submitted beginning Monday, January 13, 2020.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

Due to the short timeframe of the camp, participation in the culminating showcase is dependent on full attendance throughout the week. Missed rehearsals may necessitate that a participant's role be modified or reduced for the success of the overall showcase.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Your participation is very important to the overall success of your selected camp, but we understand that summer plans sometimes change.

In the event that you are no longer able to participate, please submit notice of your camp cancellation to education@desmoinesperformingarts.org.

Written notice of cancellation must be received SIX WEEKS prior to the first date of the camp in order for a refund to be issued.

If a cancellation is submitted less than six weeks prior to the camp start date, a refund will only be issued if we are able to secure a new registration to fill the vacated spot.
