FREE VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP
GRADES 3-12
(on-demand video series)
See a movie created right before your eyes!
No Blue Memories combines intricate paper puppetry, live actors working in shadow, and original music to bring to the screen the story of Gwendolyn Brooks – the first African American to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize and to be named poetry consultant to the Library of Congress!
In addition to being known for her poems reflecting the civil rights activism of the 1960’s, Brooks was also a treasured educator and mentor to the countless writers and children who knew her as their very own “Miss Brooks.”
Weaving together poetry, storytelling, sound design, original music, and striking visuals, No Blue Memories is an exploration of how Brooks navigated identity, craft, and politics over the course of one of the most remarkable careers in American literary history.
No Blue Memories was commissioned by the Poetry Foundation for the Brooks Centenary. Viewers will be equally inspired by Brooks’ story and seeing in real-time how these remarkable multi-media artists work together to create the cinematic experience.
