Dance Theatre of Harlem

Now a singular presence in the ballet world, the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company tours nationally and internationally, presenting a powerful vision for ballet in the 21st century. The 16-member, multi-ethnic company performs a forward-thinking repertoire that includes treasured classics, neoclassical works by George Balanchine and resident choreographer Robert Garland, as well as innovative contemporary works that use the language of ballet to celebrate African American culture. Through performances, community engagement and arts education, the Company carries forward Dance Theatre of Harlem’s message of empowerment through the arts for all.

Pre-Show DANCEtalk

Join us at 6:30 PM at the Des Moines Civic Center on the day of the performance to learn more about Dance Theatre of Harlem and the evening's performance. We will be joined by a member of the company's artistic staff for a thirty minute chat that will include time for audience questions.

Post-Show DANCEtalk

Stay late after the Dance Theatre of Harlem performance at the Des Moines Civic Center for a Q&A with the dancers. Join us at the front of the theater immediately after the performance for a chance to hear directly from the dancers about their experiences.
