Payroll and Benefits Specialist
Des Moines Performing Arts seeks a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to provide payroll, accounts payable, and benefits support to the finance and human resources functions.
The position will administer payroll on a bi-weekly basis, ensure adherence to the union agreement, detect and reconcile discrepancies, and oversee deductions and garnishment compliance. This specialist will also process year-end payroll/benefit reports in addition to coordinating and supporting financial functions such as initiating ACH and wire transfers, entering weekly payables, preparing 1099s, cutting and distributing checks, maintaining vendor information, and preparing/recording/tracking deposits. Additionally, the payroll and benefits specialist assists in benefits administration, facilitating online enrollment/maintenance, and compliance reporting/notice. Assistance will also be needed in managing the flow and accuracy of information into the HRIS/Payroll system, specifically related to new hires and data compliance needs.
The ideal candidate will possess an associate’s degree and 4-6 years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience. He/she will possess a strong understanding of complex payroll procedures and the required state/federal compliance requirements. A self-motivator, this individual will need to think independently, be a problem solver, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills. He/she will have a successful track record of providing exemplary service to internal clients and vendors, as well as building lasting relationships. Additionally, strong attention to detail and excellent time management experience are required. Experience working with union agreements is preferred, although not required.
