Education Intern (Spring 2019)
At Des Moines Performing Arts, we create world class experiences for students interested in arts education and event management.
We are seeking current college students for our internship program within the programming and education department. The Education Intern’s primary responsibilities will include supporting the planning and implementation of the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards, audience engagement experiences and school-based programs.
Candidates can expect to gain experience in event management and performing arts education. Primary projects will likely include:
- Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards: maintain database of school and adjudicator program materials; assist in the creation of communication pieces; support Awards Showcase implementation
- Audience Engagement events, including master classes and Discovery Parties: assist in promotions and event preparation and management.
- Professional Development for Teachers: assist in event preparation and management.
- Applause Series performances: assist in the development of curriculum and marketing materials, research special school-based projects connected to identified shows.
This position is ideal for students majoring in music business, event mangement, theater, education or arts administration.
Excellent communication and organizational skills required. Experience in event management and working with youth, as well as a passion for the arts, is highly desirable.
This paid internship will begin January 2019. Applicants must be available a minimum of 15-25 hours per week, with more hours during peak programming times. This position is a seasonal-based temporary position and will conclude June 3.
