Booking Manager / Talent Buyer
Des Moines Performing Arts seeks a Booking Manager/Talent Buyer to book shows and events that meet Des Moines Performing Arts’ (DMPA) artistic, financial, and audience engagement goals; these performance events are a mix of self-presented, co-promotions and rentals.
This exciting and highly influential position will initiate DMPA-presented concerts and serve as the contact for co-promoted shows, managing relationships from inquiry to event. Maintaining strong relationships with booking agents, promoters, and peer venues is a critical function of this role. In consultation with leadership, they will negotiate deals, artist fees, ticket prices and scaling, and expenses. This position will create detailed pro formas for expense analysis and sales scenarios, write contract terms, and liaise with finance to settle the financial agreements. The booking manager/talent buyer is expected to communicate event details to internal departments and assist with settlements. To stay current with prospective artists and the sector, the booking manager will attend industry conferences and meetings as well as local and other relevant concerts/events.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum of 3-5 years of experience in arts management/programming, including show budgeting, artist negotiations, and/or engagement management. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience managing multiple priorities and competing demands for time, possess exceptional communication skills, strong negotiating skills, and be a detail-oriented team player. A high energy individual with a sense of urgency and creativity who possesses an appreciation for diversity of arts and entertainment is required. Experience with commercial booking is strongly preferred.
